Sign of the Week, “eat.”
On Saturday I attended a fantastic workshop on working with children that have Special Needs. Since I teach the inclusion class on my grade level I was able to attend. I truly enjoy working with children that are special needs. I feel in my heart that being the inclusion teacher for a number of years has made me a better teacher and person all together!
That night Eric and I met family and friends at Buffalo Wild Wing restaurant to watch the Eagles (Eric’s team) in the playoffs. Needless to say it was a disappointing game because not only was Eric mad that his team didn’t win, but my family and I were mad because Dallas won. Bad night all around for everyone. I was happy however, with the pickle that Kristy shared with me off of her plate. I haven’t craved pickles since my pregnancy because I really enjoyed pickles even before. Jessica took my picture with the pickle anyway just to be funny!
On Sunday I went and visited my cousin, Bonnie Jean, who is special needs, and her mom, my great Aunt Bobby. Every year around New Year’s my grandparents, Aunt Cathy, and I go to visit them. My cousin Linda, Bonnie’s sister, is always there too. This year my cousin Kent and my Uncle Brad also joined us. Each year my grandparents bring Bonnie Jean a present. My grandfather “rigs up” the present to include dollar bills, which Bonnie loves, and to keep her interest. This year he tied messages to a rope and Bonnie had to pull the rope from the box and do the things that were on each message. She sang us a song (Jesus Loves Me), told us what she got for Christmas, and told us the names of her friends that live with her. We had a blast watching her open her present. She is always so appreciative of each item, no matter what it is. I wish that so many people in this world could have the opportunity to learn a thing or two from Bonnie. We had a great lunch of black-eyed peas (to bring us good luck in the new year) and ham biscuits. It was nice to be together!
On Monday night I had an ADK (Alpha Delta Kappa) meeting and we made Valentines for Vets. After that I went to Mrs. Thames house to watch the rest of the Bachelor with Mrs. Thames, Baba, and Penny.
On Tuesday Baby Thames received his/her first package by way of UPS! Eric and I had ordered a lamp for the nursery and it came.
After school on Wednesday Eric met me over at the doctor for an appointment. Everything went smoothly this time, the heartbeat sounded good, I had gained weight, and my stomach measured properly! We were grateful that the heartbeat was back to normal this time!
That night Eric and I went and picked up the nursery furniture! We chose espresso colored furniture and purchased a crib, changing table/dresser, hutch, and 4 drawer chest. We also bought the conversion rails since the crib will one day be a toddler and full sized bed. My personal “UPS man” and our neighbor and friend, DJ, unloaded the packages since I wasn’t much help. All I was good for was posing for a picture and holding the door.
On Friday after school I went to Eric’s parents’ house to pick up the dog and we ended up eating pizza for dinner. After dinner Mrs. Thames and I went through her cedar chest and found some of Eric’s baby things. It was a lot of fun. There were off course a lot of boy things but there were also a few gender neutral things that I found. I might possibly have also found the “bringing home baby” outfit among Eric’s old things! I thought maybe I would start the tradition of bringing baby home in “something old” instead of a brand new outfit. I guess I’ll decide once I have my showers and see if anything else jumps out at me.
