We usually spend the majority of Christmas Day with Eric’s side of the family. This year we got up and went over to his parents, in our PJ’s, for breakfast and presents. We had a small breakfast of cinnamon buns and danishes because we were going to have our main meal at 1:00. Eric’s mom, dad, Grandma (Baba), brother (Clay), and I opened one another’s gifts. A couple of nice baby things that I got from Eric’s parents were a frame to put Baby Thames’ ultrasound photo in and a maternity shirt. Eric’s great aunt, Aunt Della, made Baby Thames a yellow and white knitted blanket. Baba also got Baby Thames a present, his/her first teddy bear. Baba told me that she would also be making stockings for Eric, myself, and the baby for our house that would have our names on them. I can’t wait to have those hanging on the mantle next year. Eric’s mom was surprised with a painting that Clay did for her of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. He did an awesome job on the painting. She was also surpised to feel the first kick from Baby Thames. Quila also got her stocking and a new rain coat!
Once we finished opening gifts Eric and I went home to get changed. We did not have enough time to exchange our gifts from one another because we had to get back for our Christmas meal at 1:00. Once we got back to Eric’s parents’ house his Aunt Teresa, Uncle Nick, and cousin Tracy had arrived. We had a nice meal together of roast and other fixings. After lunch, we visited with one another, played on the Wii, and opened presents. Aunt Teresa and Uncle Nick gave Baby Thames a present, a cute bear security blanket! They also gave us a book, What to Expect the Toddler Years. I was excited to receive the book. They also gave me a plastic Dooney & Bourke cosmetic bag. I was excited because I have a new Dooney & Bourke bag that I am going to be using as a diaper bag. The cosmetic bag will be perfect in there to hold liquid type things. Before everyone left we took some cute family photos. It was nice being with everyone. Eric and I soon said our good-bye’s and headed home.
When we got home our Goddaughter, Christa, came over to exchange presents with us. The teacher and Godmommy in me gave her books for Christmas. She gave Eric and I ornaments. Mine was so cute because it had a pregnant bear on it that was holding a book that said, “Baby Thames.” We visited with them for a while Christmas night.
Once they left Eric and I finally had a chance to open our stockings and gifts from one another. We like to both surprise one another with gifts each year. This year I got Eric a Playstation 3 and accessories that he had been wanting and he got me a coat, shoes, watch, etc. We were both pleasantly surprised with our gifts. Eric and I had also bought the baby a few things from us like a blanket, silver spoon, books, photo album, picture frame, etc. It was kind of nice having the time with one another to open gifts late Christmas night. We sat on the couch late that night and talked about how next Christmas Day his family would be coming to our house. That would be nice not to have to go anywhere! Overall Christmas 2009 was a great one!
