I was given an adorable baby shower by my room moms. I don’t know who was more excited me or my students. The kids and I had already had an exciting day because it was St. Patrick’s Day and they had done their writing for the baby books. The shower fun just added to the excitement. The room moms started out with some games. The first thing they did was a sheet of paper to tally the number of student that thought I was having a boy or girl. Next they had to translate that number into sets of tens and ones. I thought it was great that the room moms had made games that were related to the SOLs (Standards of Learning). Next the students did their word scramble. While working on that, groups of students were called over to the back table to make a baby blanket. I was most excited about this. Each of the students had the opportunity to tie knots on the edges to make a baby blanket. I told the room mom later on how much I will cherish this blanket since it was hand tied by each of my students! Also during this time the students estimated how many jelly beans were in the bottle (another SOL)! After that the students were able to enjoy cupcakes and juice while we played another game. Students paired up to play Baby Shower Bingo. The room moms had filled lunch bags with various baby items. Each student had a turn to come up to the front of the room, pick a bag, and show the item inside. If the students had that item on their bingo card they used Starburst to cover that space. They all tried to win at Bingo. The students really enjoyed the game and coming up to find out what baby items were inside each bag. For my presents the students had filled a hamper with baby items. I was excited not only for the hamper because I hadn’t gotten one of those yet but all the things inside. The parents were very generous.
