The weekend was spent packing for Vegas and just wondering if we were going to get a call that the kids had “spilled the beans.” Believe it or not, they held in the secret! We made a last minute decision the night before we were leaving for Vegas that we had better tell Eric’s parents. We were afraid that the kids would tell my side of the family but not Eric’s and that they would feel left out. So we went to their house late on the night before we were leaving. I had made a sign to tie around Quila’s neck that said, “Dear Grammy and Granddaddy, Just wanted you to know that I won’t be your only grandbaby soon! Love, Quila” I went straight to the bathroom with Quila when I got there and tied it around her neck. Then I sent her in to find Grammy and Granddaddy. They noticed the note around her and began to read it. Mrs. Thames read it aloud so that Mr. Thames could hear too. Then she said, “Oh my gosh” and hugged us. They were very excited. Then we told them the whole story and about how my side of the family would be finding out tomorrow by the kids. We kissed them goodbye and went home to get ready for our trip.
On the morning of our trip my dad was taking us to the airport. It was so hard to keep a straight face with him as I just knew that in the next hour or so he would be getting a call. I tried to play it cool and just act like I was rushed to get on the plane. He didn’t think anything of it and told us goodbye.
By 7:30 Monday morning the kids had told the new!!! I got my first phone call as I was getting ready to board the plane. It was Amber screaming at me with excitement. I talked with her for only a few minutes and told her to have Jordon call and tell my dad. When we landed for our layover in Chicago I already had a ton of voicemails and texts from the family. I listened and read them all and then called my dad. He told me the story about how shocked he was when his 13 year old nephew (Jordon) called and told him the news. He couldn’t believe it because we had just seen each other a few hours before when he was dropping us off. He was disappointed at first, thinking that he was the last one to know, until both of his sisters started calling him telling him that they had just found out too. He thought it was cool that I had planned it so well. I called my Aunt Loretta and Aunt Erlinda and talked to them too during my layover. They couldn’t believe it.
Our trip to Vegas was fantastic. I spent many days at that pool while Eric and a friend of his played poker. I enjoyed laying around the pool texting and talking to family throughout the week. Through one of the texts our baby was even already asked to be in a wedding, (not until 2013). How cool only about 4 weeks in utero and already going to be a little flower girl or ring bearer. Can’t wait for that wedding! The rest of the week was spent shopping and some resting. One of our best shopping trips was to Tiffany’s at the Caesars Palace shops. Eric and I both bought ourselves necklaces that we could later get engraved with our child’s initials and birth date. Mine was a beautiful Elsa Peretti design, “The Madonna” of mother and child. Eric’s was a dog tag necklace that he said he’d get another tag for when our next child comes along. That was a lot of fun. We joked around saying that we probably wouldn’t be making it to Vegas next year.
